100years ago, Lokmanya Sri Balgangadhar Tilak, with a  view to bring unity among people of India in order to achieve independence, consulted Hindu saints and sages for their advice. Then they suggested Tilak to worship Lord Ganesha during the time of Sravana Bahula Chaturthi to Bhadrapadha Bahula Chaturthi  so that He would guide the India’s freedom movement. The idea generated thus in the mind of Tilak at that time was to Celebrate Ganesh Mahotsavs all over the country. This is the history of begining of Ganesh Utsavs in India.  Also this was the day on which Sri Swami Vivekananda delivered his excellent speech to describe about the greatness of Hindu Dharma at World Religious Parliament Meetings in Chicago, U.S.A.

Lord Shiva appointed Ganesha as the Head of all Shiva Ganas, and since then Ganesha has been called as Gananatha. Gnanadhatha (One who provides Knowledge), Dhukhaharta (one who removes sorrows) are the some other names of Ganesha. He blesses us with wealth and happiness. Agastya Maharshi after obtaining holy water from Lord Shiva, travelled across South India. That was the time when droughts took place in South India. Lord Ganesha guided Agastya Maharshi so as not to face problem in his journey. The Holy water later turned into rivers Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri, and Penna.

Bhagyanagar is the one of the major cities of South India. Like Delhi, it is also a livable place for all people of India. Ganesh utsavs are the part of the steps taken to abolish caste and regional discrimination among the people.  Ganesh Utsavs  create uniqueness in the people.

Not only in India, but also in Muslim countries like Indonesia, we can observe people worshipping Lord Ganesha’s idols.  Also they print the Ganesha’s photo on their official currency notes.

It is sad to see NAC drafting ‘Prevention of Communal Violence Bill’ which will only lead to building walls between people of different religions of India who are otherwise living harmoniously. It appears Government has a secret agenda to change our country as ‘Religious Minority State’.

I wish the people of Bhagyanagar all the best on behalf of the Hindus of all over the world.

I appreciate Bhagyanagar Utsav Samithi for its hard work in organizing the celebrations.

Jai Ganesh.
