Oldest Litigant of Ram Janmabhoomi Dispute ‘Mohammad Hashim Ansari’ Takes Last Breath

The oldest surviving litigant of Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute, Mohammad Hashim Ansari took his last breath on Wednesday morning at the age of 96. Suffering from a prolonged illness from many years, Ansari had been admitted to the intensive care unit of King George Medical University in Lucknow in June. The litigant who was involved in the disputed land case of Ayodhya since six decades, passed away in Ayodhya due to heart-related ailments.

“His health condition was not well for the past six years. He had undergone surgery too. But, today morning, he did not complain of any health problem. He was sitting in his room after taking tea. Suddenly he collapsed. His body will be buried this evening at 5 pm in Ayodhya,” said Ansari’s son Iqbal.

He was involved in the demolition case disputed structure since 1959, and was also sentenced to jail for two years for giving the call for prayer at the Masjid. He was also among seven petitioners in the Sunni Central Waqf Board’s 1961 suit for the title of Ayodhya in the court of Faizabad civil judge.

Ansari opposed to the bringing down of the disputed structure by 'Hindu Kar Sevaks' on December 6, 1992, and his house was also gutted in the riots that followed the demolition. His friendship with other Hindu litigants in the case - Ram Keval Das and Ram Chandra Paramhans of the Digambar Akhada, was very strong despite sharp difference of opinions.

He had earlier expressed unhappiness over the politicisation of the Babri Masjid case. Last year after the death of Ashok Singhal, Ansari paid condolences for his death saying that Singhal’s death was the greatest loss for Ram Mandir movement. 

Allahabad High Court in 2010 in its majority verdict allotted one-third of the disputed site in Ayodhya to Nirmohi Akahara. The other two-thirds portion has been given equally to be shared by the Waqf Board and the side representing Ram Lalla. Soon after the verdict, Ansari had called for a fresh start while citing to bury the dispute. When Modi came into power, He said that after freedom, India got the strongest leader as Modi. He said that all Muslim of India should stand with Modi.

VHP Sets December 31 Deadline For Construction of Ram Temple, Says Won't Wait For SC Verdict

With the ruling BJP apparently putting the Ram Temple issue on hold, its affiliate Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has now set a December 31 deadline for construction of a grand temple dedicated to Lord Ram at Ayodhya.

Addressing a huge gathering of saints and youths from across the country at Ujjain Mahakumbh, the saffron outfit's general secretary Champat Rai said, "Construction will start before December 31, and we won't wait for the Supreme Court verdict... We kept our patience, but won't wait beyond December."

The VHP general secretary also dismissed reports which claimed that the temple's construction would begin from November 1, saying ''some organisations were spreading rumours to hog limelight on the Ayodhya issue.''

He said 90% of the work for temple construction had been completed and the remaining would be done with the help of saints.

The VHP announcement comes four days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Ujjain where he will take part in the Vaicharik Mahakumbh.

Bangalore; May 9: “The trifurcation of  the Ram Janmabhoomi has been stayed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and daily worship of the Ram lalla has been upheld. It was obvious that court stayed the Allahabad HC verdict, as all the petitioners have asked for the stay on it” Said RSS National Executive Council Member Shri Ram Madhav.

He was speaking to media persons at RSS State Headquarters ‘Keshavakrupa’ in Bangalore today.

Replying to a reporter’s question on the demand of RSS on this issue, Ram Madhav said “We are for a magnificent Ram temple in Ayodhya . Ideally we wish the issue to be settled outside the court but it has moved too far in the court. So everyone should wait for the legal process to conclude” .

He was addressing the media in the backdrop of the Supreme Court decision to stay the Allahabad High Court’s verdict on the trifurcation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi. Earlier on September 30th, 2010 Allahabad Apex court gave a historic verdict saying that the disputed land is Sri Ramjanmabhoomi and is to be divided in 3 parts.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday put a stay on the Allahabad high court order partitioning the disputed land in Ayodhya into three parts

The SC said it was "something strange" on the Allahabad high court's part to order partitioning of the disputed land at Ayodhya as no party had sought it. The partition of disputed land has "opened a litany of litigation", it said.

A bench of justices Aftab Alam and R M Lodha, while terming the high court's judgement "as something strange," said the partition of the land was ordered despite none of the parties to the dispute seeking it.

"How could the high court engineer something like partitioning of disputed land on its own", the SC asked.

While directing that there shall be no religious activity on the 67 acre land, acquired by the central government adjacent to the disputed structure, the apex court bench said the status quo shall be maintained with regard to the rest of the land.

In the wake of the court's order, prayers at Ram Lala's make-shift temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya would be going on as usual.

"We are not disturbing anything which was going on", said a bench of Justices Aftab Alam and R M Lodha.

The Lucknow bench of the high court had in September last year passed the verdict directing partition of the 2.77 acre on which the disputed structure once stood into three parts among Muslims, Hindus and Nirmohi Akhara.

This was the first hearing in the apex court after the Allahabad high court's verdict in the title suit delivered in September last year.
