RSS worker hacked to death

Place where Vinumon was hacked to death
Thiruvananthapuram: An RSS worker was hacked to death at Thamalam near Poojappura here during the early hours of Wednesday, in an apparent feud between gangsters. The police has identified the accused and launched a search.

The deceased was identified as D.Vinumon, a resident of Kamaraj Nagar at Thamalam. He was a local leader of the RSS. A hartal was observed by the RSS in the locality on Wednesday. A strong posse of police was deployed at the place.

The incident occurred by around 2 am. A gang led by Vinumon was loading earth in a lorry at Thrivikramangalam when someone called him on his phone and said that a police party was on its way to the spot. Immediately, he, along with one of his aides Reji, rushed towards Thamalam.

A four-member gang that was lying in wait on the way, attacked Vinumon with crude weapons, while Reji managed to escape. The victim died on the spot. There were 26 injuries on his body, including deep cuts on the neck. The body was handed over to his relatives after a post-mortem.

Police suspect that a gang led by Binu alias ‘Poodan Binu’, a CPM activist, was behind the murder. Vinumon and Binu had been bitter rivals for over ten years. Vinumon was also accused of hacking Binu’s legs a couple of years ago.

“We have got clear details of the accused and have launched a search”, said Museum Circle Inspector V.Jayachandran. Vinumon’s brother-in-law is said to be a police personnel. The body was cremated at Santhikavadam at Thycaud.
