RSS Smells Conspiracy Behind 'Award Wapsi' Row

HYDERABAD:The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Wednesday saw a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the nation behind the recent awards returning frenzy of ‘secular intellectuals’. RSS’s Telangana State general secretary A Chandrashekar accused the intellectuals of ‘bias’ and wondered why they were not questioning the Samajwadi Party (SP), which is in power in UP, for the Dadri incident and the Congress government in Karnataka for the murder of rationalist MM Kalburgi.
“Whoever wants to express their views, can do so through a healthy debate. But do not behave in a way which will damage the image of the country,” Chandrashekar said at a press conference at the Keshav Nilayam, Barkathpura. RSS Telangana State president P Venkateshwar Rao was also present at the presser. The RSS members pointed out that nobody had expressed dismay when people were killed in terror attacks and communal riots during the Congress regime. Rao said the recent Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal (ABKM) baithak in Ranchi had discussed the religionwise data of Census 2011 and highlighted the need to review the country’s population policy.
The major resolution passed at the baithak was ‘Challenge of imbalance in the population growth rate’, he explained. Chandrasekhar said population of Hindus in Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, other North Eastern States, and in Muslim dominated areas had decreased because of religious conversions and infiltration of immigrants. Character of the nation will not remain the same if population of Hindus comes down, he warned. “RSS believes there is secularism and democracy in the country, because of Hindu philosophy and culture,” he said. Rao opined that a population register should be maintained.
Reacting to the comparison between ideologies of the RSS and the Islamic State (IS), he said it was not correct to equate both. “Extremist ideologies never survived in the country. India as a nation would have rejected any idea that is similar to that of the Islamic State,” he said. About food habits of people, he said that RSS does not have any opinion on it and the people are free to choose their diet. However, Rao said RSS will object  if someone opts to eat something to hurt the sentiments of others. Chandrashekar also said the RSS does not support political leaders who brand people as Pakistani agents or ask them to go to Pakistan for expressing their views.
