A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar on Wednesday asked senior advocate D. Prakash Reddy, and former president of AP High Court Advocates Association G. Vidyasagar to attend a meeting convened by the AP Pollution Control Board on September 18.
They were asked to file a report before the court expressing their views on the issue of Ganesha idols immersion for necessary action. All the stakeholders such as members of Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti had been invited to attend the meeting.
The Bench was dealing with a batch of petitions seeking a complete ban on immersion of idols in the water bodies, including Hussainsagar, and other lakes in the State. The petitioners averred that steps were needed to protect environment and lakes from pollution.
The Bench, on an earlier occasion, called for a report from the APPCB on how the guidelines issued by Central Board, Kolkata High Court and Bench of the AP High Court were being implemented. The PCB filed its report explaining the steps .
The court was informed that a meeting had been convened next Tuesday. The Bench asked the advocates to attend the meeting and posted the matter for further hearing to September 21.
Nominations to Legislative Council
Dealing with another petition, the Bench declared that the judgment in the case pertaining to nominations to the Legislative Council would be delivered later. The arguments concluded on Wednesday. Venkateswar Rao, Hyderabad, challenged the action of the State government in nominating A. Chakrapani, Farookh Hussain, Reddappa Reddy, A. Lakshmi and Rajeshwar Rao to the AP Legislative Council.
