VHP demands bill in parliament on Ram mandir

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has demanded introduction of a bill in Parliament at the earliest for construction of Ram mandir at Ayodhya.

“If the present government fails to do it, the Ram Bhakt government that will come to power after the next election will build the Ram temple,” VHP leader Ashok Singhal said obliquely hinting at the BJP coming to power at the Centre under the leadership of Narender Modi).

Addressing a meeting of Ganesh mandap organisers, organised by the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi at the Nizam College Grounds here on Sunday, Singhal said the bill was necessary as the Allahabad High Court’s verdict on the dispute either way was not going to untie the knot because it can satisfy neither Hindus nor Muslims. “The Ram Janmabhoomi issue is not a property dispute but a matter of faith of millions of Hindus. It is well beyond the purview of the court.”

Singhal made it clear that no replica of Babri Masjid would be allowed within the 84-kosi parikrama (circumambulation) area in Ayodhya. ‘’We will fight till our last breath and see that no replica of Babri Masjid will come up in Ayodhya. The VHP wants to make Ayodhya a mokshapuri (a sacred place for salvation),’’ he said.

“Exacavations proved that there was indeed a Ram temple there and some of the building material of the temple was used to build the masjid. Though the country got political freedom, we have to fight and achieve religious and cultural freedom for Hindus. The situation is an insult to us because we are under the influence of outsiders.”

Singhal blasted the Uttar Pradesh government for stalling the 84-Kosi Parikrama Yatra from Ayodhya in which a large number VHP members were arrested in various parts of Uttar Pradesh in a massive police crackdown. He also demanded a complete ban on cow slaughter in the country since the cow is worshipped and treated as sacred by the Hindus. The 10-day Ganesh festival will commence on September 9 and culminate on September 18 with immersion of idols.

BGUS general secretary Bhagwanth Rao accused the police of harassing Ganesh mandap organisers and insisting on prior permission for installing Ganesh idols in their respective localities.Swami Chinmayananda from Uttar Pradesh, Paripurnananda Swami of Sri Peetham from Kakinada, Kamalananda Bharathi Swami of Hindu Temples Protection Committee, BGUS president G Raghava Reddy and secretary R Shashidhar also spoke.
