The visit of YSRC chief Jagan Mohan Reddy to Tirumala on Sunday kicked up a row with the young leader entering the main temple without signing the declaration form mandatory for non-Hindus. This is the third time Jagan was involved in such a controversy.
It is mandatory for non-Hindus to sign the form at the Vaikuntam Queue Complex affirming their faith in the Lord and declaring that they would not hurt the sentiments of Hindus in any manner. But Jagan had darshan during VIP break time without signing the form. He was accompanied by an entourage of nearly 250 persons. Jagan, however, followed TTD guidelines by coming to darshan in a traditional attire. After darshan, the priests blessed him at the Ranganayukula Mandapam. “It seems to be a deliberate act to hurt the sentiments of Hindus. Is it beneath his dignity to sign the form? If a person in a respectable position flouts rules, what message will it send?” questioned BJP district general secretary Samanchi Srinivas.
He also demanded action against TTD officers who allowed Jagan to enter the temple without signing the form. Srinivas said it was unfortunate that Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, who had earlier worked as TTD chairman, accompanied Jagan and also ignored the form. YSRC leaders, however, asserted Jagan did no wrong. Party leader and former TUDA chairman, who also served as ex-officio member of the TTD, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy wondered why a section of the media was making a mountain of a mole hill.
Recalling that former chief minister the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy had offered silk clothes to the Lord and had darshan in his capacity as chief minister for five consecutive years and and also visited the temple about 30 times as a devotee, Bhaskar Reddy said there was no need for officials to press the YSRC chief to sign the declaration form as his intentions were beyond doubt.
