NEW DELHI: Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) will mobilize 2 crore youth to participate in yoga camps across the country to observe International Day of Yoga on June 21.

NYKS would also organize lectures by experts on different aspects of yoga during the youth convention being held at more than 550 district headquarters. Mega events will also he held in state capitals, including Lucknow, Patna, Kolkata and Guwahati where large number of youth will learn and practice yoga.

Announcing the plan, director general of NYKS Major General Dilawar Singh said, "NYKS will observe the day across the country with the theme `Yoga for Harmony and Peace'."
Singh, who took charge 10-days back, hinted at a poor state of affairs in NYKS. He said NYKS is facing numerous challenges which have remain unresolved for decades, adding that 55% posts of district youth coordinators are vacant.

"The need to address the requirements of the youths deserve much greater attention and the NYKS Board has resolved to address these challenges in a planned and prioritized manner," said the NYKS DG.

Singh said NYKS will launch youth leadership development programme "Ek saal desh ke naam". The mission of the programme is to sensitize the youth towards various social challenges and provide them opportunities to develop leadership qualities for meaningful contribution to nation building, he said.

The NYKS has also planed to involve youth for creating awareness and motivate them to participate in activities related to Ganga cleaning. "Ganga Vahini comprising trained and motivated cadres from local village youth volunteers need to be created," said Singh, adding that a MOU between NYKS and national mission for Clean Ganga has been signed.
