The left liberals always claim
they respect the law of land and abide by the decisions it take whenever issues
relating to them reach courts, but in reality it is completely different, they create
their own courts, gather evidence, record testimonials of selected persons and
finally prepare a document and brand it as private legal judgement to counter
the real courts to get political and sympathetic mileage from public.
The same is happening in
Hyderabad on the case related to death of Rohit Vemula, who committed suicide in
January without naming anyone in his final letter. Though the government is
handling the case officially, but some private persons in their own capacity held
a meeting in the name of “People’s Tribunal on Caste Discrimination and Police
Action in University of Hyderabad’.
This day-long private tribunal was
chaired by Madras High Court former Justice K. Chandru, along with Prof G. Wankhande,
former dean school of education TISS and Prof Ghanshyam Shah, former JNU faculty
member.
The tribunal recorded testimonials
of V. Sunkanna and Sheshiah, scholars who were part of five member team
suspended by UoH along with Rohit. Prof K. Laxminarayana, K. Yesu Rathnam, Radhika
Vemula, mother of Rohit too had their voice. In their explanations, they recalled
the chain of events that lead to death of Rohith and subsequent happenings like
police in campus, return of VC Appa Rao, and many that occurred in and out of campus.
This private tribunal also paid
attention to professors who explained their version on suicides happened in 2008
(Senthil Kumar) and 2013 (P. Raju and Madari Venkatesh).
The tribunal is likely to submit
its report in name of ‘People’s Report’ and it may include the suggestions and apprehensions
of delay in forming SC/ST Cell at UoH.
