Jillela limps back to normalcy

Kurnool: With the heavy deployment of police personnel, the situation was brought under control on Monday in Jillela village in Gospadu mandal, where three persons were shot dead and 15 others suffered injuries in clashes between two groups over a land dispute on Sunday evening.

District Collector C Sudarshan Reddy and District Superintendent of Police Chandrasekhara Reddy called on the families of the victims and assured them financial assistance from the government. Meanwhile, the police registered a case on the basis complaint lodged by one of the injured persons. Three persons, including one Ganni Mian, have been taken in to custody in connection with the case, police said.

Ganni Mian, who was convicted earlier in a murder case, allegedly fired at the villagers last evening in which three persons were killed and five others sustained injuries, including a police sub-inspector and a constable, police said.

Andhra Pradesh BJP unit president G Kishan Reddy alleged that the district administration failed to prevent the clash and demanded a judicial inquiry into it.Speaking to the media persons, Reddy alleged the accused opened 53 rounds of firing. Police recovered 26 bullets from the spot, but failed to take action against the accused, he alleged.

Though members of two communities were at loggerheads on the issue of a land for some time, police did not take any preventive measure to resolve the problem, he further alleged. "It was a pre-planned attack on the villagers of a particular family," he said.
