Sri Bangaru Laxman (74) - Ex-BJP President

Former BJP president Bangaru Laxman has passed away today in Hyderabad.

Sri Bangaru Laxman was suffered from serious illness since last one year. He dies in Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad on Saturday. He was 74.

He has three daughters and a son. He was the first Dalit president of BJP. He joined politics at an early age and was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1996. He was also jailed during the Emergency in 1975.

His wife Susheela Laxman Bangaru was a BJP member of 14th Lok Sabha and was elected from Rajasthan's Jalore constituency.

Bangaru Laxman was president of the BJP between 2000 and 2001. Before becoming the BJP president, Laxman was the Union minister of state for railways between 1999 and 2000.

He was resigned to President post due to some political controversial incident.

BJP president Rajnath Singh and other party leaders have condoled the death of Laxman.
