His life story is as well the story of our missiles, Agni, Prithvi, Akash, Trishul and Nag, that have raised our nation as one of the missile powers of international reckoning.

The RSS leaders said that Kalam had faith in Bharat's rich heritage and unswerving belief in our talented youth, and wanted Bharat to emerge as a knowledge society and empowered nation.

Tamil Nadu RSS condoles Dr. Kalam: Dr. M L Raja, Prant Sanghachalak of Tamil Nadu RSS expressed his shock over the sudden demise of Dr. Kalam at Shillong.

Describing Dr Kalam as “a great patriot, whose appeal to youth for national reconstruction has generated huge enthusiasm amongst them” Raja said that the nation has lost his beloved son”.

Though he was an achiever, he was very particular in highlighting the contribution by his junior colleagues. This great quality of his clearly brought out in his autobiography 'Wings of Fire', he said.

Raja further said that Kalam had emphatically established in his autobiography that India needed atomic weapons for its defence by citing the words of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to the same effect, even while anti-national groups were propagating to the contrary.

A man of simple living and high thinking Kalam had a great respect for teachings of Bhagavad Gita as well as Thirukural. He enjoyed the swaras of carnatic music by being engrossed in playing the Veena. In the evening of his life, Kalam constantly tried to reach out to the next generation so that they can be inspired to dream of a glorious Bharat.
