The ‘Bharat Parikrama Yatra’ a mega walk started by a 68 year old RSS Pracharak and
former Akhil Bharatiya Seva Pramukh Sitaram Kedilaya on the 9th of
August in 2012 completed three years on Sunday at the Jalpaiguri District of
West Bengal.
RSS Sarasanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat
wished Kedilaya for the successful completion of three years of Bharat
Parikrama Yatra. Bhagwat had joined the Yatra twice, once in January 2013 at
Panvel in Maharashtra and then on 8th September 2013 at Seekar
district of Rajasthan.
Aimed at creating awareness about
conservation of water, ecology and rural Indian values in village life, the
Yatra successfully covered 1210 villages of 17 states, recording over 15,070
kilometers, which had initially started from Kanyakumari.
“Know
Bharat, be Bharat and Make Bharat Vishwaguru” is the slogan that Sitaram
Kedilaya coined out for this Yatra, adding that the rise in poverty,
unemployment and corruption is due to the commercial approach of people towards
life, reduced to a never-ending struggle for making profit. This scramble
invited terrorism and violence, ultimately leading to a craving for peace.
“And then
this makes them realise that the road to solitude, ultimately happens to be
Bharat. It is here that the relevance of the third and most important trend
comes into being: “The world is a family and life is a revelation.”
Kedilaya
covered around 10 kilometers daily by foot, stopping at the nearby village for
rest. The key aspect of the Yatra included interaction with eminent village
folk and the youth, over issues like caring for those who are sick, blind or
handicapped.
A collective
session of prayer with all the villagers at the village temple was undertaken,
to restore the feeling that they are all a part of a family. Kedilaya believed
that revival of the concept of ‘Vasudha Eva Kudumbakam’ by creating an
atmosphere of unity, would go a long way in ensuring that peace and harmony
prevails in the villages.
The Bharat
Parikrama Yatra has completed its journey of the Northeast, covering villages
in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh. (The Yatra did not visit Tripura,
Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim). Kedilaya also visited a village of India-Bhutan
border area. Rerouting back to Assam, the Yatra reached Uttar Bengal area
through Bakshihat area.
To complete
one full cycle plans of visiting visit Bihar, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand,
Andhra, Telangana and Tamil Nadu are scheduled for later this year.
