By performing the five-day Ayutha Chandi Yagam on a
grand scale, something that wasn’t witnessed before, Chief Minister K.
Chandrasekhar Rao has created a new benchmark in conducting such
rituals. The same ritual or any other performed by
anyone in future would surely be compared to this, precisely because of
its magnificence and the elaborate arrangements made for it. Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) of Sringeri Mutt, Gouri Shanker, claimed that
no leader in the past two hundred years had performed Chandi Yagam on
such a large scale adding that even Mysore Maharajas could not dream of
performing the yagam in such a manner though they were ardent devotees
of Goddess Durga for several generations. The Chief
Minister had decided to perform the yagam about four years ago when he
came in contact with Sringeri Mutt, but he started planning for it from
the past three months.
Though performing Chandi Yagam
is a completely private affair, the entire administration has been
involved in it by virtue of he being a Chief Minister. The
entire Police Department, including the intelligence sleuths, has been
involved as VIPs and VVIPS apart from elected representatives have been
invited for the ritual. The story isn’t different with the Telangana
State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) which has been running special
buses to Erravalli from Gajwel- Pragnapur. Not lagging behind, the
mobile network operators – BSNL and Reliance – have erected towers to
increase the signal strength and usage by customers. More than 500
workers have toiled hard for about a month to construct the Yagashala
and give it a traditional look. Even the ‘Parnashalas’ (accommodation
for VIPs) have been made with such care that it entices anyone at first
glance.
