Thousands of students who gathered at Indira Park took a
pledge of ‘Nation First’ and vowed to root out people supporting the
‘anti-national’ elements from the campuses, and also what they called
political parties that were supporting the anti-national elements within
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus.
The
programme organised by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at
Indira Park saw people from different walks of life including families
of soldiers raising their objection to the slogans raised by a section
of students against the county and extending their support to terrorists
like Afzal Guru in the name of freedom of speech. The programme was
attended by Jagannadh Acharya, father of Padmaphani Acharya, who was
martyred in the Kargil war; Osmania University Professor Kasireddy
Venkat Reddy; ABVP national secretary, Raghunandan among others.
Mr.
Acharya said while soldiers were laying down their lives for the
country on the borders, some students were supporting terrorists.
Prof.
Kasireddy Venkata Reddy said India will be a strong nation when the
concept of one nation, one people and one flag is infused in society’s
culture.
He said the only slogan should be ‘Bharat
Mata ki Jai’ amidst the slogan raising students. Mr. Raghunandan said
the country needs martyrs like Hanumanthappa and not Afzal Guru and
Yakoob Memon.
