Devotees embarked Maha Navratri festival with great fervor; PM Modi greets nation on special occasion


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted nation on the occasion of Navratri which is one of the major Hindu festival being celebrated for nine days and nights with the culmination on Dashahra, the tenth day. The Navratri is derived from the Sanskrit words "nava" which means nine and "ratri" which means night. Navratri is also the beginning of the festive season in Hindu calendars followed by Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhai Dooj, Chath Puja, Tulsi Vivah and Dev Dipawali. Devotees throng various temples throughout the country to offer their prayers to powerful Goddess. Security is being tightened up at Vaishno Devi and other important worship places of great importance. During Navratri, devotees observes fasts and offer prayers to Goddess Durga in its various manifestations. In Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and many other states, Garba is being celebrated whereas in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, UP, W.bengal and other states special 4 day Kali Pooja is being observed. Out of four types of Navratris, the Navratri which falls during October-November is also called as Mahanavratri or Shaardiya Navratri. It falls in the hindu calendar month of Ashwin.
