The chain of events initiating
from exit of Indian cricket team from T 20 World Cup in the last month, and
subsequently raising Indian national flag in NIT Srinagar campus has taken
decisive turn today as students are in favor of taking self-declared holidays to
their homes, keeping aside their exams which started on 11 April.
As per media reports, nearly
500 students already left the NIT campus, and 500 more are planning to leave
to their home towns in these couple of days with their parents consent as well
as informing the same to college authorities. The students are likely to return
as soon as this high temperature gets down for smooth functioning of college in next
two weeks.
The NIT management agreed
to demands of students to relax in exam schedule and allow to re-appear at later dates, in view of the highly charged atmosphere with events like police
laticharge, snatching the national flag, re-hoisting the paperly drawn national
flag while CRPF in campus, visit of MHRD ordered fact-finding team, accepting
most of demands excluding shifting of campus from Srinagar.
A day before actor Anupam
Kher, who shares roots with Jammu and Kashmir, was stopped at Srinagar airport
when tried to reach out to students to show his solidarity with students who raised Indian national
flag and meet the injured during the police lati charge. The police
also arrested a team of 150 member team of ‘Chalo NIT’ who tried to meet the
students.
