The signature festival of
Telangana known as “Buthukamma” commenced on Friday (30-Sept,2016) all across
the state. During the festival, Goddess
Gauri is worshipped in the form of Bathukamma.
Batukamma is a beautiful flower
stack, arranged with different flowers usually in seven concentric layers in a
conical mound. By evening women particulary girls gather in large numbers along with their Bathukammas
and place them in the middle and dance around while singing soul stirring folk
songs. After singing and dancing, Bathukammas are set to afloat in lake or
river.
On the culmination of festivities,
maleeda, a prasadam made of jaggery, is prepared and distributed among the
women.
This will be celebrated during
Durga Navaratri, the 9-day festival will conclude two days before Dussera.
