Harsh Mander, social activist, addressed the students gathered
in the evening hours at shopping complex of University of Hyderabad and
demanded for action against VC Appa Rao, alleging him to be responsible for the
unrest in the campus since two months.
Mr. Mander was in the
campus on the invitation of Department of Mass Communication for a talk with
students on 4 April. He said civil disobedience is an important part and charging
with sedition for dissent should be questioned.
On the same day, outside the university, CPI national secretary
Narayana held a “Chalo Rajbhavan” rally with various student organizations with
the demand of action against VC Appa Rao. However, police intervened and arrested
the leaders and students.
In last week three CPI Kerala MP’s, and social activists Yogendra
Yadav, Teestha Satalvad, Medha Patkar all tried to meet the students inside the
campus to speak on Rohit Vemula issue, but they all were prevented by security
personal due to restrictions on entry of non-students.
